Uncork a New Tradition

Host a dessert and wine pairing party!

What could be more fun (and educational too!)? Not only will your friends enjoy sweet delicacies, they’ll be able to try a variety of wines in a casual, fun environment.

What to do:

  • Select 3–5 desserts to feature. See our recommendations below.
  • We recommend setting up three distinct dessert and tasting bar areas. Use tables or counter tops. You could even have theme rooms – each with a different dessert and wine tasting station.
  • Include a place card at each station with the name of the dessert and pairing.
Tip: For an extra touch, include a recipe card for each dessert so guests can make their favorites at home.

Chef’s Tip: Put out different plates, cutlery and stemware at each station so your guests can taste each pairing fresh.

Host a Blind Wine Tasting Party

The best way to learn about wine is to taste it! A blind tasting party is a fun way to try different wines without knowing anything about them. Here are some tips on how to host a blind tasting party in your own home.

What to do:

  • Decide a theme. Do you want to feature a single varietal? Vintage? Wines from a specific region of the world? Or perhaps a vertical of the same varietal from the same vintage? The possibilities are endless!
  • Ask each guest or couple to bring a bottle with them to the party, or if you would like to impress your guests even more, choose your own assortment and make the blind tasting more of a surprise.
  • Gather supplies. Brown paper lunch bags work well to cover the bags. Use a sharpie to number each wine. Keep pens and paper on hand for guests to take notes on each wine.
  • Keep it a surprise. As your guests arrive, put the wines in a room out of view. Once everyone arrives, slip the wines into your labeled bags and start serving your first bottle! Start with 1oz portions and offer more to those who want it.
  • Make it a competition. Ask each guest to guess one aspect of each wine. Give a prize to the person who has the most correct answers. Also, you can ask your guests to rate the wines to see which one is the favorite. A bottle of your favorite wine makes a perfect prize.

TIP FOR THE HOST: Make sure to have plenty of water and snacks on hand! An artful cheese plate makes a perfect companion to any wine tasting.
