The Wine to Pair

Sangiovese, California, Private Reserve, $20

Wildly popular in Italy, where it is the most widely planted grape, this grape barely registers on the acreage scale in California. It is known for its high acidity, which makes it a true friend to food.

Why we love it:
Easy drinking on its own, with flavors of plum, cherries and subtle floral notes, but can be a real showstopper when paired with high-acid dishes like pizza or spaghetti Bolognese.

The Wine to Impress

Syrah, Private Reserve, California $20

Not to be confused with Petite Sirah (a different grape altogether), Syrah is widely grown around the globe and can be traced back centuries to France's Rhone Valley. It is equally at home on its own or in blends like Hermitage and Cotes du Rhone, to name a few.

Why we love it:
Smooth tannins and bright acidity coupled with the smooth jammy berries make this wine a real crowd pleaser. It also makes a great match for dinner party favorites like braised short ribs and beef stew.

The Wine to Linger Over

Carignane, Alexander Valley, Private Reserve $20

Carignane is one of the most widely-planted red wine grapes in France, particularly in the south where it thrives in the hot, dry climate. It is lovely bottled on its own or contributes color, acidity and tannin to red blends, like our Carignane-based Three Vines blend.

Why we love it:
The rich, inviting flavors of bright cherry, raspberry and cinnamon cedar spice, are perfect for a low-key dinner with friends & family, or a quiet evening in for two.
